Jack Wade (Joe Don Baker) provides James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) with a 1984 Cessna 172P Skyhawk airplane in the movie GoldenEye (1995).

A similar Cessna 172P Skyhawk airplane can also be spotted in the pre-title-sequence of Licence To Kill (1989). In that film, Robert Davi as Franz Sanchez tries to escape in the Cessna, only to be 'caught' by James Bond and Felix Leiter and their Aérospatiale HH-65A Dolphin helicopter. This Cessna is currently owned by the Ian Fleming Foundation and was on display at the Bond In Motion Exhibition at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

The Cessna 172 Skyhawk is one of the most popular personal aircraft in the world.

Cessna 172P Skyhawk in GoldenEye

Jack Wade makes a dramatic entrance, landing a Cessna 172P Skyhawk plane in front of James Bond and Natalya Simonova (Izabella Scorupco) in the blue BMW Z3. Wade wears American Optical aviator sunglasses in the scene.

This fixed wing single engine plane has registration number N96816. The scenes were filmed in Puerto Rico and the airplane was still registered there until 2017 (see it on FlightAware). It's not clear if the airplane is still in working order today.

In the movie, the airplane is completely destroyed in the Cuba scenes: first it is hit with a surface-to-air missile and then it crashes into the jungle where it breaks apart and burns.

James Bond wears the Omega Seamaster 300m, a Brioni suit and Persol 861 sunglasses in the scene. Jack Wade wears American Optical aviator sunglasses.

Scale models

Several scale models of the Cessna were used for the filming of GoldenEye. One of those models was offered at a 2021 Propstore auction where it sold for £2,250. This model was constructed by miniature effects supervisor Derek Meddings and his team, by modifying an off-the-shelf toy. The detailed plastic plane has "N96816" on both sides of the fuselage.

Another, larger model was used for the scene where the missile hits the wing of the plane.

Buy a scale model of the Cessna 172 on Amazon or find a selection of Cessna 172 models on eBay.

cessna modelSimilar but not the same: a large, 1:6 scale model of a Cessna 182 (a slightly different Cessna model) by Phoenix is a great display piece. Its already pre-painted (similar to but not the same as the GoldenEye plane) and can also be made into a remote control plane if you buy an engine and controller. Find it on eBay for $219.

Other Cessna airplanes in James Bond films

In Live And Let Die (1973), Bond commands a Cessna 140 from Bleeker Flying School. And Cessna 185 planes can be spotted in For Your Eyes Only (1981), Licence To Kill (1989) and No Time To Die (2021).
