Casino Royale linen suit recreated by Anthony Sinclair and Academy Costumes

The dark navy linen suit worn by Daniel Craig as James Bond during the brutal opening sequence of Casino Royale has been recreated by Anthony Sinclair in collaboration with Academy Costumes, using the original patterns and production notes from the 2006 film.

The new First Kill Suit is now available to order, together with a recreation of the distinctive short-sleeved blue linen shirt worn underneath it. The suit is priced at £1,150 / $1,595, while the matching First Kill Shirt costs £295 / $395. Both are currently made to order.

The linen suit from Bond’s first kill

Daniel Craig’s introduction as James Bond in Casino Royale begins before he has officially earned his 00 status.

In the film’s black-and-white pre-title sequence, Bond confronts corrupt MI6 section chief Dryden in Prague. Their conversation reveals that Bond still needs two kills to become a 00 agent, with a flashback showing his violent encounter with Dryden’s contact Fisher in the washroom of a cricket club in Lahore.

It is during this fight that Craig wears the dark navy linen suit, paired with a pale blue short-sleeved shirt, brown belt and suede chukka boots. It is a deliberately less polished look than many of the tailored outfits Bond wears later in the film, fitting the younger and more physical version of the character introduced in Casino Royale.

Both the original suit and shirt were made for the production by London-based Academy Costumes, working with Casino Royale costume designer Lindy Hemming. Importantly for this new recreation, Academy retained the original patterns and cutting notes used for the film.

Rather than attempting to reproduce the outfit from photographs or surviving film footage, Anthony Sinclair and Academy Costumes have returned to those original production records twenty years after the clothes were first created.

The First Kill Suit is made from a substantial 265g/m² pure linen in a very dark navy blue. The jacket has a soft, unconstructed shape with a relatively high two-button fastening, four-button cuffs, double vents and open patch pockets at the hips.

The matching flat-front trousers have straight legs and plain bottoms, recreating the straightforward design of Craig’s original costume.

The Anthony Sinclair x Academy Costumes First Kill Suit is priced at £1,150 / $1,595, with an estimated made-to-order delivery time of four to five weeks.

Academy’s records also reveal an interesting detail about the filming of the sequence: 26 examples of the suit were produced for Daniel Craig and his stunt double. Multiple versions were needed to maintain continuity throughout the physical fight scene and to replace costumes as they became wet or damaged during filming.

Short-sleeved Bond shirt

The accompanying First Kill Shirt is arguably an even more distinctive part of the outfit.

Made from lightweight 110g/m² pure linen, the fabric combines blue and white yarns to create its pale sky-blue appearance. The recreated shirt features the same tall two-button spread collar, front placket and, most noticeably, short sleeves.

The First Kill Shirt is available separately for £295 / $395, with standard and custom sizing options.

Wearing a short-sleeved shirt underneath a suit jacket is unusual in traditional menswear, but it suited both the hot-weather setting and the physical nature of the scene.

There is also an interesting connection with Ian Fleming. Fleming frequently wore short-sleeved shirts himself, while the literary James Bond is also described wearing them in warm climates. Short-sleeved shirts later became part of Sean Connery’s Bond wardrobe in films including Thunderball and You Only Live Twice. Whether Craig’s Casino Royale shirt was deliberately intended as a Fleming reference has never been confirmed.

The First Kill outfit follows another recent Anthony Sinclair and Academy Costumes project celebrating the 20th anniversary of Casino Royale.

Earlier in 2026, the two companies recreated the Madagascar Shirt and Trousers worn by Craig during the famous parkour chase at the beginning of the film, once again working with Academy’s original production material.
