Xenia's Black Hat by Philip Somerville
Villainess Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen) wears a black hat created by Philip Somerville in the movie GoldenEye (1995).
Xenia wears the hat in Monaco when she kills the two helicopter pilots.
On the military ship, Xenia Onatopp whistles to two pilots who are on their way to the helicopter. She says: "Shh. I have a small surprise from your friends back at the barracks."
A helicopter pilot says to his colleague: "I think I've gone to heaven." Xenia Onatopp replies "Not yet" as she shoots him.
The outfit is only sen briefly in the film, but was used for promotional images for the film, including photos of Pierce Brosnan and Famke Janssen (holding a martini) inside the yacht.
Costume designer Lindy Hemming selected Phillip Somerville to create the elegant hat for Xenia's character in the film. Read more about the hat in an interview on 007.com about headgear in Bond films.
Philip Somerville (12 February 1930 – 14 September 2014) was an English milliner who had a salon in London. He is most famous for the hats he created for the Queen, from whom he held a Royal Warrant, and Diana, Princess of Wales.
The fur hat worn by Elektra King (Sophie Marceau) during the skiing chase sequence in The World Is Not Enough (1999) was also created by Somerville. Elektra wears the hat with Sam De Teran salopettes.
Somerville continued trading until 2008, when he retired and his Chiltern Street hat salon closed.
