Sunspel celebrates Casino Royale 20 Year Anniversary with limited edition Sea Island Cotton Riviera Polo
Sunspel marks twenty years of the modern Riviera Polo Shirt with a limited-edition version in Sea Island cotton, the world’s finest cotton.

The Riviera Polo traces its origins to the 1950s, when Sunspel developed a lightweight mesh fabric for warm days on the French Riviera. Created in 1955 by Peter Hill, great-grandson of the founder, the design reflects the brand’s long-standing focus on fabric innovation. Hill engineered a warp-knit cotton mesh that is breathable, soft and comfortable in warm climates. With its dry handle and subtly open structure, this cloth remains central to the Riviera Polo today.

In 2006, the style was refined for Daniel Craig’s debut as James Bond in Casino Royale. Working with Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming, Sunspel evolved the original silhouette into a sharper, more contemporary form. The fit was streamlined, the sleeves shortened, and the proportions carefully balanced to create a clean, athletic line. The Riviera Polo has remained a signature of the collection ever since.

Cut in this same silhouette, the limited-edition version is crafted from Sea Island cotton, a fibre synonymous with Sunspel since the 19th century. Prized for its exceptionally long staple length, it produces a fabric that is smooth, breathable and soft, while retaining strength and durability. Its natural lustre and refined handle place it among the finest cottons in the world.

This is not the first time the Riviera Polo is available in Sea Island Cotton: in 2020, to celebrate the new movie No Time To Die, Sunspel also released the Riviera Polo in the soft fabric. In 2018 and 2021 Sunspel released Sea Island Cotton collection inspired by Ian Fleming, but those collections didn't include the polo.
