One very minor point, the strap worn on the ref. 6538 in “Goldfinger” and “Thunderball” was not a “NATO” strap; what we now call the NATO strap (I think Maratac were the first to use that name, in the early 2000s) was first defined by DefStan 66-4 Issue 1 in August of 1968, whereas “Goldfinger” began principal photography in January of 1964.
In fact, the strap was not a military strap at all, but rather a cheap commercial 16mm pass through nylon strap of a type that was fairly common at the time. If anyone’s interested, I wrote about this in much more detail here:
