007 First Light: the most revealing preview yet
A new trailer for 007 First Light "Rules of Spycraft" offers the clearest look yet at IO Interactive’s upcoming James Bond game, revealing more gadgets and stunning gameplay.
Developed by the studio behind the Hitman series, 007 First Light presents an original origin story, following a young Bond as he works towards earning his 00 status. Rather than adapting an existing film, the game introduces its own version of the character, along with reimagined versions of M, Q and Moneypenny, alongside new allies and adversaries.
Watches and Gadgets
The trailer places strong emphasis on Bond’s equipment and its good to see Bond return to fun gadgets.
An Omega Seamaster appears prominently, and a box full of Omega watches with different straps, designed for the game and integrated with Q Branch-style functionality.
Beyond telling the time, the watch is shown as an active tool in gameplay, echoing earlier Bond gadgets with modern enhancements. The trailer hints at a gadget 'laser strap' upgrade that "fires a powerful directed energy beam with the capacity to disarm or temporarily blind an enemy, as well as disrupt complex electronics. Useful for cutting to the chase or getting out of a bind."
Additional gadgets appear throughout the trailer, including a Leica Q3 43 Digital Camera (Leica has been a partner of Bond since No Time To Die and has appeared in earlier movies as well), black earpods and a metal lighter.
Weapons and Action
Firearms are present as well, of course, including what looks like a Walther PPK, but also a range of other pistols.
The trailer suggests a balance between gunplay and infiltration, with Bond moving through environments using both traditional weapons and quieter, more controlled methods.
Characters and Villain
The trailer once again shows what most likely is a villain, a man or a woman wih a Roman golden mask with laurel wreath, alongside a supporting cast that includes Bond’s MI6 handlers and field contacts.
We also get a glimpse of Universal Exports, an MI6 base including Q's gadget room and a gym.
Vehicles
No Bond project would be complete without a car. The trailer features the yellow Aston Martin DBS, adapted with Q Branch modifications, continuing the longstanding association between Bond and Aston Martin, but as we saw in earlier trailers, many more cars will be available for gameplay.
First Impressions
The trailer positions 007 First Light as a modern Bond experience built around stealth, gadgets and cinematic action. With its focus on a younger, still-developing Bond, the game aims to establish a new interpretation of the character, one that can evolve over multiple titles.
The game is scheduled for release on May 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox and PC and will arrive on the Switch later this year.
