Steve McQueen by William Claxton, TASCHEN
If you like the style of Daniel Craig, you might also like Steve McQueen. The two film stars share many similar features, from their rugged but cool face, short haircut and well-built body, but there's no doubt that Craig has been infuenced by some of the clothing and accessory choices of the legendary actor and allround cool guy Steve McQueen.
TASCHEN's great photo album Steve McQueen by William Claxton with 190 pages is an extensive guide to McQueen's style and it's easy to picture Craig in each of the outfits.
The book was first published in 2004, and in 2008 TASCHEN's 25th Anniversary Edition was released with a new hardcover photo (compare the covers on the left).
After looking through the book, you might be very tempted to buy a pair of Persol 714 folding sunglasses, made cool by Steve McQueen who wore these in his personal life as well as in some of his movies, and also worn by Daniel Craig, for example during the SPECTRE photocall in Austria. Another timeless piece that looks good in every wardrobe is the Baracuta G9 Harrington jacket, worn often by McQueen and also spotted on Craig, as well as many other actors and musicians (read more about celebrities and the Baracuta G9 Harrington jacket)
Sharing a passion for fast cars, Steve McQueen (1930-1980) and William Claxton became friends early in McQueen’s career and remained close until his premature death. Claxton frequented McQueen throughout his many incarnations (daredevil, dirt biker, movie star, sports car driver, ladies man, family man, etc.), capturing at every turn another side of McQueen’s enigmatic tough-guy/nice-guy personality. As this photo album demonstrates, Claxton’s photographic talent and sensibilities were perfectly attuned to the actor’s multifaceted character. This is the real Steve McQueen, immortalized by Claxton’s empathetic lens.
