Daniel Craig as James Bond uses a Robert Welch Trattoria Bright Steak Knife in the 2006 movie Casino Royale.

In one of the most tense moments in the film, Bond reaches a breaking point after losing all his money in the poker game to Le Chiffre. Bond spots a steak knife on a table and quietly slips it into his hand before heading towards Le Chiffre. He tells Mathis to "get the girl out", implying this is going to get ugly.

The scene shows Bond at his most reckless and emotionally driven. Rather than calculating his next move, he is prepared to make an impulsive attempt on Le Chiffre’s life, abandoning the controlled professionalism expected of a 00 agent. Before Bond can act, however, he is intercepted by Felix Leiter, who reveals himself as a "brother from Langley", a CIA operative, and offers Bond the funds needed to stay in the game.

The moment is brief but important in establishing the more vulnerable and volatile version of Bond introduced in Casino Royale. The simple table knife becomes part of a pivotal turning point in the film.

The knife was only recently (2026) identified by Bond fan and AJB forum member Adrian as a Robert Welch Trattoria Bright Steak Knife.

About the Robert Welch Trattoria Bright Steak Knife

Trattoria Bright cutlery has a traditional appearance inspired by European bistro dining. It is a redesign of a wooden handled range of cutlery called Bistro, originally designed by Robert Welch in the early 1960s.

The pattern evolved from a desire for less formal styling, suitable for increasingly casual meal settings. At the time it was described as 'attractively rustic' with its riveted rosewood handles. This modern variant of the much-loved 1960s classic instead uses moulded dishwasher-safe handles with a satin finish to give a warm and engaging tactility.
