The Story behind this watch
Seiko launched a prototype for the TV watch at the same time as the shooting for Octopussy began. The watch has been called SUWA SEIKOSHA, and has been branded this way. Suwa Seikosha was an Epson company, a daughter of Seiko.
For the movie, they did some improvements to advertise the Seiko brand, but the watch initially did not come out as a Seiko watch. The colour images in the movie are fake as the watch had only a very low-resolution black and white LCD screen.
After the Suwa Seikosha model sold well, Seiko issued the Seiko TV Timer, which has been available in 2 different versions. The one with the black horseshoe-style bezel is a bit closer to the Octopussy watch and extremely rare. It has been only available in Asia.
