Looking for Tom Ford TF 108 Sunglasses in Blue Lens

Has anyone thought about or tried removing the additional piece of metal on the 207s to make them more like the 108s. I have a pair of 108s in gunmetal and grey lenses and I love the look but the temples are slightly short and I know the 207s fit better (longer temple). Plus I could afford to buy a pair in the correct color combination.

Anyone broke a pair and noticed if the metal is plated or solid through.

I've THOUGHT about it, but I don't care about that piece THAT much to possibly ruin a pair of $170 sunglasses haha.
